Strandeng


Strandeng er ein biotop i strandsonen i kystområda med ymse artar gras og blomar som toler salt frå havet i stor mon. Dels er saltinnhaldet i lufta høgt, og dels vert engene påverka av salt ved at dei ofte vert sett under vatn når kraftige vindar står på.


Strandenger finst framfor alt på avleiringar i lite vêrharde viker og ved elveutløp, der bølgjeslaga er dempa av skjer, rev eller andre naturformasjonar. Jamvel om strandengene toler å verte sett under sjøvatn frå tid til anna, ligg dei såleis vanlegvis på stadar som er verna mot direkte påverknad av salt sjøvatn og erosjon frå bølgjer.


Strandenger er yngle-, kvile- eller beiteområde for ymse fugleartar.
