Morten Smelror (fødd 12. mai 1958 i Trondheim) er ein norsk paleontolog. Han tok cand. scient i 1985 og dr. philos i 1992.


Frå 1983 til 1985 var han stipendiat ved Paleontologisk museum ved Universitetet i Oslo.
Han hadde ulike forskar- og leiarstillingar ved Institutt for kontinentalsokkelundersøkelser og petroleumsteknologi i Trondheim frå 1985 til 1997, og frå 1997 var han underdirektør ved Institutt for naturhistorie ved NTNU. I 2000 vart han avdelingsdirektør ved geofagleg avdeling ved Noregs geologiske undersøkingar (NGU) og sidan 2006 har han vore administrerande direktør her.
