Dei paralympiske leikane er dei offisielle olympiske leikane for utøvarar med fysiske handikapp. Dette inkluderer rørslehandikapp, amputerte utøvarar, utøvarar med nedsett syn og med cerebral parese.

Historie |


Dei fyrste paralympiske sommarleikane vart haldne i Roma i 1960. Dei fyrste vinterleikane vart haldne i Örnsköldsvik i 1976.


Den 19. juni 2001 skreiv Den internasjonale olympiske komite (IOC) og Den internasjonale paralympiske komite (IPC) under ein avtale som sikrar at paralympiske leikar skal haldast like etter OL på same staden.


IOC har i tillegg til dei paralympiske leikane, to andre konkurransar for personar med handikapp. Dei heiter Special Olympics og Den internasjonale komitéen for døveidrett.
