Vårknipe viser til den mangelen på fôr som kan finna stad mot slutten av vinteren og byrjinga av våren, før vekstsesongen har kome i gang. I dag kan ein også bruka omgrepet om matsituasjonen for ville dyr, som også kan ha problem med å finna føde mot slutten av vinteren.


Til forskjell frå ein praksis som sveltefôring var denne hendinga utilsikta, og kunne koma av ein dårleg haust eller ein langvarig vinter. For å hjelpa dyra kunne ein bruka uvanlege fôrtypar, som mose, tang, tare og bork.


Vårknipa kan finna stad i høve der ein berre bruker eigendyrka fôr til husdyr, men blir i dag hindra av kraftfôrbruk og liknande.
