Burnside er ein forstad i Christchurch på New Zealand. Han ligg søraust for Christchurch International Airport. Som dei fleste andre forstadar i Christchurch, har han ingen klårt definerte grenser.

Historie |


Burnside var opphavleg ein del av ein farm, tilnærma 6,9 km² i areal, som var eigedommen til den tidlege nybyggjaren William Boag, som kom til staden i 1851 frå Perthshire. Han vart oppkalla etter dei små bekkene som danna kjelda til Waimairi Stream.[2][3] Namnet «Burnside» vart offisielt gjeve til staden av Waimairi County Council i 1959.[4]


Gjennom dei første eit hundre åra med europeisk busetjing var området kring Burnside jordbruksland med sauer, kveg og hagebruk som dominerande næringar.



Forstad |


I Burnside ligg ein sentral park (Burnside Park), og dei to sentrale gatene er Memorial Avenue og Greers Road. Her ligg også ein mindre park (Jellie Park) overfor Burnside High School ved Greers Road.
