What I am trying to do is make a change in the Category -> Design -> Layout Update XML and it seems to not work.
it seems the merge order is like this: Framework Theme -> Category -> Module/Extension -> Child Theme
I've tested this and the only way I can get it to work is to not have a module/extension override for the category view and not to have a child theme override for the category view.
