Klubben vart stifta i 1874, og var ein av dei 12 klubbane som starta The Football League i 1888. «The Villans», som er kallenamnet til Aston Villa, spelar heimekampane sine på Villa Park i Birmingham. Birmingham, som er den nest største byen i England, ligg i den engelske regionen Vest-Midlands, omtrent 20 mil nordvest for London.
