Loch Long


Loch Long (gælisk for «Skipssjøen», long tyder skip og namnet er altså ikkje engelsk som mange trur) er ein sea loch eller ein fjord i Argyll and Bute i Skottland. Han er ein fjordarm nordaustover frå Firth of Clyde og er om lag 30 km lang. Loch Long har òg ein fjordarm, Loch Goil, på vestsida.

Loch Long var historisk grensa mellom Argyll og Dunbartonshire. I 1996 vart grensa trekte på ny då heile området kom inn under regionen Argyll and Bute.


Fjorden vart nytta som testområde for torpedoar under den andre verdskrigen og her ligg derfor mange skipsvrak. Fjorden er derfor ein populær dykkestad.


Finnart oljeterminal ligg på austsida av fjorden, knytt til Grangemouthraffineriet via ei 100 km lang røyrleidning. På austsida ligg eit våpenlager for Royal Navy.


Av landsbyar langs fjorden finn ein Arrochar heilt inst i fjorden og Cove på austsida.


Heile vestsida av fjorden ligg langs Rosneathhalvøya.
