Birmingham er den største byen i den amerikanske delstaten Alabama og hovudsetet for fylket Jefferson County. Delar av byen ligg i fylket Shelby County sør for Jefferson. I følgje folketeljinga i 2000 er det 242 820 innbyggjarar i Birmingham, men med forstader er folketalet 1 170 012. Byen ligg litt nord for sentrum av Alabama.


Birmingham vart grunnlagt som ein industriby i 1871, etter den amerikanske borgarkrigen. Byen blomstra gjennom århundreskiftet, noko som gav han klengenamnet «Magic City» (den magiske byen).


Som ein storby i det sterkt rasesegregerte Alabama, var Birmingham prega av rasekampane gjennom 1960-talet. I 1963 vart tre afro-amerikanske jenter drepne av ei bombe, plassert der av Ku Klux Klan, ved ei baptistkyrkje.


Etter kvart har byen fått ein variert økonomi med både industri og tenestenæring. Sjølv om industrien framleis er viktig, er Birmingham òg eit senter for bankar og trykkeri, og det føregår òg viktig medisinsk forsking der.
