Cape Denison er eit kupert nes ved Commonwealth Bay i Antarktis. Det vart oppdaga i 1912 av Den australasiatiske antarktisekspedisjonen (1911–14) under Douglas Mawson, som namngav det etter sir Hugh Denison frå Sydney, som støtta ekspedisjonen økonomisk. Neset var hovudbasen til ekspedisjonen.[1]


Cape Denison vart i 2004 utnemnt til eit spesielt forvaltingsområde i Antarktis og står på listen over historiske stader og kulturminne i Antarktis.

Første fly i Antarktis |


Flytraktorsleden, det første flyet som vart ført til Antarktis (i 1912) var stasjonert ved Cape Denison, men det tok aldri av i lufta fordi det vart øydelagd under overfarten. Flyet, som var ein Vickers R.E.P. Type Monoplane (den første flytypen bygd av Vickers) vart nytta ein kort periode som «propelldriven snøtraktor» og så forlate, sidan stempela slutta å virke i kulda.[2]

Nyårsdagen 2010 fann snekkaren på den siste ekspedisjonen til Kapp Denison over eit lite (150 mm) stykke av røyr frå flyskroget i hamna ved særs låg fjøre.[2] Restane av skroget ligg truleg framleis gravlagd i isen nær hyttene til Mawson. Isen er tre meter djup og restane står kring 30 meter frå kanten av hamna. Det vart gjort eit forsøk i desember 2010 på utgravingar ved staden.
