Vilhjálmur Einarsson


Vilhjálmur Einarsson (fødd 5. juni 1934) er ein islandsk tidlegare friidrettsutøvar og skulemann frå Reyðarfjörður som vann sølvmedaljen i tresteghopp under Sommar-OL 1956 og bronsen ved EM i friidrett 1958.


Under dei olympiske sommarleikane 1956 i Melbourne sette Vilhjálmur ny olympisk rekord med 16,26 m i den andre finaleomgangen, ein rekord brasilianaren Adhemar da Silva forbetra til 16,35 m i fjerde omgang. Sølvmedaljen var den aller fyrste OL-medaljen til Island. To år seinare stod Vilhjálmur på bronseplassen då trestegøvinga var avvikla ved friidretts-EM i Stockholm. Den 7. august 1960 sette han personleg rekord med 16,70 meter heime på Laugardalsvöllur, framleis landsrekord i 2018. Ein månad etter rekordhoppet vart han femtemann i øvinga under Sommar-OL i Roma, seks centimeter bak bronsevinnaren.
