Kompresjonsforhold


Kompresjonsforhold i ein stempelmotor er forholdet mellom sylindervolumet når stemplet er i nedre posisjon og når det er øvre posisjon. Eit høgt kompresjonsforhold fører til auka virkningsgrad, men i ein Ottomotor kan det ikkje vera så høgt at gas-luft-blandinga sjølvtenner. Moderne bensinmotorar har ofte eit kompresjonsforhold på opp mot 10:1, medan dieselmotorar kan ha kompresjonsforhold på opp til 20:1.
