Ruth Fuchs, fødd Ruth Gamm, (fødd 14. desember 1946) er ein tysk tidlegare friidrettsutøvar og seinare politikar frå Egeln i Sachsen-Anhalt. Ho tevla for Aust-Tyskland då ho var verdas beste kvinnelege spydkastar gjennom 1970-åra. I tida 1972-78 vann han to olympiske og to europeiske meisterskap i øvinga. Perioden 1990-2009 var ho aktiv politikar for det austtyske sosialistpartiet (PDS) og seinare venstrepartiet Die Linke.



Idrett |


Fuchs fekk bronsemedaljen i EM i friidrett 1971. Året etter tok ho gullmedaljen under sommarleikane i München. I 1974 vart ho europameister i Roma med verdsrekordkastet 67,22 m og slo sølvvinnaren med over fem meter. Ho forsvarte OL-gullet i 1976 og EM-tittelen i 1978.



Politikk |


Gjennom vel eit halvår i 1990, til dess dei to tyske statane vart samla 2. oktober 1990, representerte Fuchs sosialistpartiet PDS i den austtyske nasjonalforsamlinga Folkekammeret. Etter samlinga sat ho i den tyske forbundsdagen til 20. desember 1990. Frå 1992 til 2000 var ho forbundsdagmedlem for PDS, mista plassen i parlamentet då partiet kom under sperregrensa på 5% ved valet hausten 2002. Etter å ha vore medlem av landdagen (delstatsforsamlinga) i Thüringen perioden 2004-09 for Die Linke, trekte ho seg frå politikken.
